Chelsea Tobin is a third-year student in the clinical psychology doctoral program at The Pacific Graduate School of Psychology at Palo Alto University with an emphasis in neuropsychology. She received her undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Biology from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York and her Masters degree in clinical social work from the University at Albany, SUNY.
While at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Chelsea conducted research on disordered eating behavior among college-aged women, levels of motivation for optimum health outcome in HIV positive adults, and completed an honors thesis examining issues of differential diagnosis in Autism and Reactive Attachment Disorder. During her time at the University at Albany, Chelsea studied the impact of acculturative stress on psychiatric conditions in East Asian adults, and conducted disordered eating behavior evaluations for individuals with Anorexia, Bulimia, and Binge Eating Disorder. Following graduation, Chelsea practiced as a social worker treating individuals in substance use rehabilitation and the New York State Department of Probation and Parole’s re-entry program.
As a clinical psychology doctoral student, Chelsea is a member of the Neurobehavioral Correlates of Neuropsychiatric Conditions Research and Assessment lab (Dr. Tilman Schulte, PI) at Pacific Graduate School of Psychology at Palo Alto University. Last year Chelsea worked at Stanford’s Center for Neuroscience in Women’s Health studying the impact of insulin resistance and brain derived neurotropic factor levels on cognitive functioning and hippocampal volume in adults. Chelsea is currently conducting assessments and psychotherapy with community outpatients at the Gronowski Clinic in Mountain View, CA.
In the Substance and Anxiety Intervention Lab Chelsea is working under the mentorship of Dr. Adrienne Heinz, conducting neuropsychological and psychiatric assessments as part of a randomized controlled study examining the impact of a mobile, neuroscience-based cognitive remediation intervention for veterans with co-occurring PTSD and Alcohol Use Disorder.
Chelsea’s research interests include the treatment of addictive behavior and substance use disorders, cognitive rehabilitation, assistive technologies, and dissemination and implementation of evidence-based practices. Chelsea’s clinical interests include neuropsychological assessment, civilian reintegration issues, using technology to improve productivity and quality of life, and increasing levels of motivation for recovery in individuals who struggle with problematic alcohol use.
