Dr. Kimberly A. Babson completed her B.S. in psychology at the University of Vermont. She then completed her M.A. and Ph.D. in clinical psychology at the University of Arkansas under the mentorship of Matthew Feldner, Ph.D. during which time she completed a pre-doctoral NIMH F31 grant on the role of sleep deprivation and posttraumatic stress disorder. Dr. Babson completed her pre-doctoral clinical internship at the University of Washington School of Medicine under the mentorship of Michael Vitiello, Ph.D. and Debra Kaysen, Ph.D. Dr. Babson’s research interests center on understanding malleable health-related risk factors to inform the treatment and prevention of posttraumatic stress disorder with a particular focus on the role of sleep disorders. She has expertise in experimental psychopathology and phase I translational research, including: (a) the use of behavioral paradigms to elicit and manipulate emotions related to posttraumatic stress disorder and panic disorder, (b) the use of behavioral methods to experimentally manipulate sleep, and (c) assessment and implementation of behavioral interventions for both posttraumatic stress disorder and sleep disorders.
